Scribe Lite: An excellent, affordable program for transcription

Comments: I am very pleased with Scribe Lite, and with my contacts and communication with the company. I would definitely recommend it to anybody who is looking for a basic, affordable, and reliable transcription system.

Pros: I used Scribe MT for several years when I was employed at UCSF. In November of 2010 I signed on with them independently so I could give my private accounts an easy way to do their dictation. They have been completely reliable and easy to use. They offer a discount if you use their local number and an even better deal if the doctor uploads the dictation from a digital recorder. Doctors can dictate 24/7 and I can access the dictation from any computer. In addition, you can archive all the dictations so the dictator can locate them at a later date. My contact at the company has been helpful and responsive in answering questions and troubleshooting any minor problems I have had.

Cons: I'm not sure this is really a "con", but rather something to be aware of. When you use Scribe Lite, you have to pay for any help tickets. During the installation, you may need help setting up the program correctly on your computer. It is not a complicated process, but you should be aware that you may need some assistance to get the computer settings correct. One other minor point: In Scribe Lite you get 5 lines to use for dictators. When you set it up, you can identify specific users. If you don't identify someone specific, you can't add their name later on. It defaults to your user name with an identifying number. This is a very minor point, but again something to be aware of.

Comments: Overall this product is great. Tech support is good with lending a hand with problems. Very easy to learn.

Pros: Easy fill in for demographics, looking up patient history, etc. Ease in looking up physician names and addresses in address book. Ease in looking up patients in schedule feature. Works well with medical spellcheckers, shortcut programs, etc.

Cons: The dictation times out after 42 minutes and does not save before it closes. Auto save would be a great feature to add. No check boxes to say "do not ask me again" for the extra steps in loading a dictation and loading a sound file. Intermittently slow.
